Fifth-year senior offensive lineman Mac Pyle showed his versatility on Saturday at Georgia when several teammates went down due to injuries. Before the game was over Pyle would see action left guard, right tackle in addition to his normal right guard position.

When most people watch a football game from the stands or on television, their eyes follow the ball and the player in possession of it. Those listening on the radio may go through an entire game and never hear a word about the blocking. Newspaper readers may go through an entire season and never read one word about the offensive linemen.

VandyMania spoke with offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell and got an update on each of Vanderbilt's offensive lineman. In this segment the coach talks about the veterans. In our next segment Caldwell gives us his overall feelings on this year's line compared to 2005 and also comments on some of the incoming freshmen for 2006.

One of the highlights this spring for Vanderbilt coaches has been watching sophomore quarterback Jay Cutler accept an increased leadership role for the youthful Commodores. During a 45-minute scrimmage Wednesday, he displayed his remarkable playing skills. Cutler, who started 11 of 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2002, was superb Wednesday, leading the offense to touchdowns in two of the three drives he directed.

Injuries continue to mount for Vanderbilt's football team. At his Monday press conference, head coach Bobby Johnson said that starting right guard Brian Kovolisky will definitely miss the Florida game, and may not play again this season.
