THE NINTH WIN of the season at the Sun Bowl truly provides Washington State a springboard into the 2016 offseason. The Cougars have a lot of key pieces coming back -- but also some holes that will need to be filled. Here are three things I believe Washington State need to address prior to next season's opener.

For the first time in 12 years, we can call Washington State “Bowl Champions.” In a snowy Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, the Cougars beat Miami 20-14 even though the Cougs didn’t score a single point in the second half. A combination of good defense and a few untimely penalties against Miami paved the way for a happy Cougar holiday.
EL PASO - Washington State defensive lineman Darryl Paulo said the defense had two goals: pressure Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya and create three turnovers. Consider it mission accomplished as the Cougars did both during Saturday's 20-14 Sun Bowl win against Miami in El Paso, Texas.
COUGAR DEFENSMAN Hercules Mata’afa was named the Sun Bowl’s Lineman of the Game after Washington State’s 20-14 win. It was only fitting given that the second-year freshman reserve also wound up sharing the WSU season sack title with senior Darryl Paulo.
THREE COUGARS -- quarterback Luke Falk, right guard Eduardo Middleton and wide receiver Gabe Marks -- were named Associated Press first-team All-Pac-12 on Friday, with six Cougs in total named to the AP All-Pac-12 teams. Washington State's Mike Leach was named the AP Coach of the Year in the Pac-12.
