WITH THE FOURTH day of classes underway at Washington State, forward Greg Sequele, one of three members of Ken Bone's incoming recruiting class, remains an apparent no-show. And if the 6-8 Sequele doesn't enroll and join the Cougs for this semester, an already thin area in the paint would become yet a deeper shade of pale.

THEY TAKE basketball seriously in Los Angeles, but you have to admit someone had a pretty good sense of humor going on the day in 1986 when it was time to pick a mascot for Ribet Academy, a college prep school located just past downtown near Glendale. Ribet's teams are called the Fighting Frogs. It's a nod to the fact no one pronounces Ribet the way it's supposed to be: Ri-Bay.

THERE WERE NO surprises at Washington State – for either the men or women – on Day One of the early signing period for basketball recruits who will be coming on board next fall. Ken Bone signed both players he had received verbal commitments from. And June Daugherty inked the three who had verbally committed to her -- three who are earning the Cougar class national recognition.

THE EARLY signing period for national basketball letters of intent starts Wednesday and Washington State is expected to ink two players: Tacoma guard Davonte Lacy and Los Angeles power forward Greg Sequele. The two commits raise one big question: Where is Ken Bone getting the extra scholarship from? WSU, which has no seniors on the team, is currently one below the NCAA max of 13.
