The San Diego Padres placed outfielder Brad Hawpe on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 19, with a strained middle finger on his right hand, selected left-handed-pitcher Josh Spence from Double-A San Antonio and recalled catcher Kyle Phillips from Triple-A Tucson.
