Big offensive nights for the Chihuahuas and Missions netted a pair of wins as the Padres shuffled pitching staffs across the system.
Thursday night saw the Lake Elsinore Storm return home after playing their first seven games on the road. Unfortunately, the bats were cold and the Storm dropped their home opener. San Antonio rode excellent pitching to a shutout win while the TinCaps continued to rack up runs in the Midwest League. In the Pacific Coast League, El Paso couldn’t get the bats going and lost again in Tacoma.
Once seen as part of the Padres' aggressive move to be major players in the Dominican Republic, Jones' career ends with another in a long line of disappointments for the organization.
Mike Olt will move to the other side of Chicago, as he has been claimed off waivers from the Cubs by the White Sox.

Iowa, Myrtle Beach and Eugene all used the long ball to earn wins on Monday night. Mike Olt (pictured) homered for the third straight game to help Iowa end a six-game skid.
Rob Zastryzny returned to the mound on Monday night and Dylan Cease, the Cubs 6th round pick last year, made his professional debut in Arizona. Mike Olt and Neil Ramirez are headed to AAA to rehab while Kyle Schwarber is added to Iowa roster.
Mike Olt belted a pair of homers, including a two-run shot in the top of the 8th to give the I-Cubs the lead but Iowa lost on a walk-off grand slam. Its was that kind of a night for the Cubs affiliates as they all lost.
