Ben Rand, a freshman guard on the 2004 University of Iowa men's basketball team, said Thursday he will leave the University at the end of the spring semester. Ben Rand, the sharpshooter from Rochelle, Illinois, is making the transition from high school to college. His play in the PTl has improved as he has learned from his teammates. Sidelined by a minor injury, Rand reflects on the past and looks forward to his future as a Hawkeye.

Iowa State freshman Adam Haluska has been released from his scholarship and will transfer. He averaged 9.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists as he started all 31 games for the Cyclones. Haluska was an honorable mention College Basketball News All-Freshman selection.

Ben Rand is now officially an Iowa Hawkeye. The 6-6 188 pound wing forward from Rochelle, IL signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday afternoon. Rand, who also received interest from such schools as Marquette, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Boston College and Stanford, verbally committed to Coach Alford's program back in early June. However, everything was made official on Wednesday, the first day of the fall signing period for high school and junior college players.
