J.R. Moore become the first Rhode Island verbal

6-9 J.R. Moore of Worcester (MA) Academy has become the first player to verbally commit to Rhode Island, according to the Providence Journal. Moore played last year at Portland (OR) Benson Polytechnic High, where he averaged eleven points and nine rebounds per game. Benson finished fifth in last year's Oregon Class AAAA state championship.

Timberwolves Shootout field looks loaded

The Minnesota Timberwolves have scheduled a prep afternoon session the past several years before their own NBA contest. Last season, the eventual AA, AAA and AAAA state champions (Litchfield, Minneapolis Patrick Henry and Hopkins) played in the Timberwolves Gatorade Shootout and defeated outstate teams from Oregon, New York and Texas and won by 17, 15 and 15 points. The three teams will be back for another appearance as they figure to be the odds-on-favorite to repeat as state champs.
