In college athletics, only about one percent can make a career out of their respective sport. More often than not, when an student-athlete leaves college, that sport they've bled and sweat for becomes an afterthought as they venture into the business world. But sometimes there is a way to get the best of both worlds, and Ryan Appleby has figured that out.

SEATTLE - In a fitting end to the 2007-08 basketball season, hobbled UW forward Jon Brockman missed two free throws with four seconds remaining as the Huskies fell to the Valparaiso Crusaders, 72-71 in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational at Bank of America Arena.

LOS ANGELES — Washington put forth a gutsy effort playing without Jon Brockman in its Pac-10 Tournament first round game against California in the Staples Center, but fell short, 84-81, when Venoy Overton's last-second 3-pointer deflected short of the rim. The loss likely ends the season for the Huskies, which finished the year an even 16-16.
