Scott Drew of Valparaiso has agreed to rebuild the Baylor basketball program and will be named the Bears head coach on Friday. Drew led Valparaiso to a 20-11 record and an NIT bid, where the Crusaders lost to Iowa in the first round in his first year as a head coach. He had served as an assistant under his father Homer for nine years at Valparaiso before taking over for his father last season. Homer will come out of retirement to replace his son at Valparaiso.

The Troy Trojans held off a furious rally by Hempstead to win the opening boy's game of the Shop & Save KMOX Shootout 52-50. Brock Perkins led all scorers with 25 points, but it was the defensive effort by Brad Turnbull and Jason Harting that saved the day. Turnbull's sixth block of the day with 12 seconds left stopped an inside scoring chance by Hempstead.
