CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The infectious smile has not left Barrington Edwards' face, but his attitude has become much more serious. After an admittedly disappointing 2005 debut, in which off the field distractions and lackluster performances culminated in his absence from the final two games of the season, he and his coaches say Edwards is now on the right track.

One bright spot concerning North Carolina's 2005 future with a brand new starting quarterback was the potential of Matt Baker being surrounded by veteran talent. But that possibility took a major hit on June 13, when projected tailback starter Ronnie McGill suffered a torn pectoral muscle and subsequently had surgery that will keep him out at least half of the coming season.
