Colorado conducted its 8th practice of the preseason late Sunday afternoon in front of roughly 50 onlookers under what turned out to be the hottest conditions of the camp so far. What stood out Sunday was how many new faces were running with the No. 1 team on the defensive side of the ball.

<a href="http://scout.theinsiders.com/a.z?s=148&p=8&c=1&nid=15313">Chris Russell</a> was one of the top players in the state of Tennessee two years ago as a high school senior at Nashville's Hillboro High. He chose CU over in-state power UT, and redshirted in 2003. This spring he's been moved to strong safety, where he hopes to challenge for playing time next fall. BSN spoke to him about the new position and how his offseason was.

With spring practices just days away, the Colorado football depth chart reveals some position changes, the creation of a new position and some different terminology. After using a 4-2-5 as its base defense the past two seasons, CU will now play a 4-3 base under new defensive coordinator <b>Mike Hankwitz</b>. The new linebacker position will be called the "Buff Linebacker."
