THE FICKLE nature of baseball's annual summer draft was demonstrated once again when tabbed outfielder Ben Roberts to be the first Washington State Cougar selected this week, at No. 265, but Baseball America magazine failed to mention Roberts among its top 500 draft prospects.

Cougs drop finale, still win series

SWEEPS HAVE BEEN hard to come by this year for the Cougar baseball team, and so it was again vs. No. 24 USC. The Cougs couldn't turn off the faucet in the late innings on Sunday, and a 1-1 tie turned into a 7-1 loss. WSU still took the series 2-1.

This Week in Cougar Baseball

WASHINGTON STATE will be greeted by hot weather and a hot opponent when they return to Bailey-Brayton Field on Friday to take on USC and kick off Baseball Reunion Weekend. The Cougars' post-season aspirations appear to be on life support, but they can stay in the hunt with a strong homestand this weekend against USC and next weekend against last-place Utah.
