The Saints raised a few eyebrows this year when they moved up in the NFL Draft to select safety Vonn Bell in the 2nd round. With Jairus Byrd & Kenny Vaccaro still under contract, many in the Who Dat Nation thought the Saints had more pressing needs to fulfill in the Draft. But after closely watching Bell throughout OTAs, minicamp, and a week of training camp, I'm convinced the Saints made the right move picking up the former Ohio State Buckeye. Somewhere in the heartland of America, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer is broadly smiling. Not only did his school set an NFL Draft record by having TWELVE players chosen in the first 4 rounds, five of them were 1st round picks. The New Orleans Saints selected two of those Buckeyes, wide receiver Michael Thomas and safety Vonn Bell, in the 2nd...and after they each produced two truly remarkable plays this morning, Sean Payton is now the coach with the biggest smile on his face.

Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis hit an absolute home run with their first NFL Draft class in 2006. Reggie Bush, Marcus Colston, Jahri Evans and Zach Strief all played pivotal roles on that Saints Super Bowl team.
