ALTHOUGH IDAHO TAILBACK ELIJHAA PENNY had a career day on the road against Appalachian State, scoring twice on the ground and once through the air, it wasn't enough to propel the Vandals to victory against Appalachian State. Idaho (1-10, 1-7 Sun Belt) played well in the first half and went into halftime down 24-15, but couldn't hold off the Mountaineers (7-5, 6-2 Sun Belt), falling 45-28.

NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT DAY was a day loaded with surprises for Vandal fans as the second year staff under head coach Paul Petrino hauled in athletes from coast to coast. Of the 17 recruits signed Wednesday - most poised to make an immediate impact this fall - nine will be joining the program from the junior college ranks, taking the class to 25 with the eight JC recruits signed in December.

WEDNESDAY'S NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT SIGNING DAY included the usual surprises, as one or two prospects expected to sign didn't, while the Vandals also picked up a surprise or two, including getting a signed LOI from Washington AP All-State defensive end KEVIN SHELTON out of Auburn High School. A group of 20 signed Wednesday, adding to the eight JC athletes who signed with UI in December.
