Mississippi State will look to settle its' kicking concerns in more ways than one over the course of the next few weeks. With spring practice just over six weeks away, Coach Dan Mullen and his staff will likely be working without their starting kicker and punter.

Preseason is just about over for the Bulldogs. They have just a pair of remaining practices, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, before Coach Dan Mullen gives them a couple days off. But when they return on Sunday…it’s game week at last.

Mississippi State entered fall camp looking for a starter in all three kicking disciplines. Sophomore Logan Cooke gained some experience last fall kicking off, place kicking and punting. As the days to the season opener at Southern Miss hit single digits, Cooke is still competing for a starting role.

It isn’t as if they can see some literal green line overlaying the field. Be assured Evan Sobiesk and Dan Mullen know it’s there, though, running sideline-to-sideline through the 32-yard stripes. That, for Sobiesk, is where he can expect a green light from the Coach.

LEXINGTON -- So intent was Christian Holmes on protecting the football, he wasn’t going to give it up to anyone. Not even to somebody wearing stripes. “Actually the referee was like ‘44, you’ve never scored?’ I said nah, I had the ball high and tight. He said, ‘can I get the ball?!’”

Logan Cooke was part of a large group of Mississippi State's future players this past weekend as he took his official visit to Starkville. Cooke reports that the weekend was more than he ever anticipated and that he cannot wait to get back on campus as a student athlete to wear the Maroon and White.
