Naijiel Hale, a 5-foot-10, 182-pound sophomore cornerback announced via his Instagram page Friday that he would be leaving the Washington Football program. Later, Head Coach Chris Petersen confirmed the news, saying Hale had been dismissed for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Washington’s front seven lost a ton of talent to graduation and the draft, so both the defensive line and linebacking groups are in the process of rebuilding quality depth across the board. But the defensive back group when through their rebuilding phase on the fly last year, so they should be in strong shape heading into this fall.

Sometimes you have to take a step backward to eventually jump forward, and that’s exactly what has happened with Washington’s defensive back unit. Six members of the secondary played as true frosh the last two years, now giving the group depth and talent where they need it.

Spring Football is done at Washington for another year, so it’s time to pick through the bones and see what we learned about the Huskies. We knew going in they lost a lot of experience along the lines and wouldn't have a starting quarterback that may or may not be here this fall. We'll go position-by-position in-depth starting Tuesday, but today is a day to reflect on the balance of Spring Ball.
