Congratulations to Stanford running back and Heisman Trophy finalist Toby Gerhart. Tonight, the amazing #7 won the prestigious 2009 Doak Walker Award, putting him in truly elite company among Stanford's all-time greatest football players. The Doak Walker Award, first awarded in 1990, honors "the nation's top college football running back". A well-deserved honor indeed!

It was the first of its kind, and it was a wild success. An Alumni Game on Saturday was held at Stanford Stadium between former Cardinal players and the current coaching staff (plus a few "ringers"). These 26 action photos from Mark Godi capture Troy Walters, Brian Allen, Mike Mitchell, Todd Husak, Chad Hutchinson, Bob Whitfield and more against Jim Harbaugh, David Shaw, Willie Taggart & Co.

While this looks like a pretty good match up on paper, does anyone think the Cardinals can rattle off two straight victories this season? Then again, did anyone think the Vikings would implode like they have? Neither team can score, both teams can stop the run. It's going to be close. And boring.

Last week, both teams had their noses bloodied by a division foe. With the NFL's newfound focus on settling races early by scheduling massive amounts of divisional games in the first few weeks of the season, it's kill or be killed. Neither team can afford to fall into an early hole from which they may never escape. The Cards are at home, and that could be the difference.

Cardinals fans were relieved to see that the prognosis had been accurate and that another John Navarre start wouldn't be necessary. Although undeserved, most pundits were busy all week long skewering Navarre for a poor performance versus the Cowboys. On Wednesday, Arizona actually downgraded Warner from probable to questionable, fueling speculation that the backup would get a second start.

Given Tyrone Willingham's perpetual deadpan scowl, it was inconceivable that the former Stanford Coach would have tolerated any player hi-jinxes late in the season. As Washington fans have learned in the past year, Willingham can be as dry as a hotdog bun from a Husky Stadium concession stand. Nonetheless, with his Stanford team in the Pac-10 race in early November of 1999, the coach's tolerance level was put to the test.
