MadFriars Daily Farm Report: April 28

All four Padres’ full-season squads were in action Thursday night, although the results were less than desirable, as all four teams lost. El Paso dropped their series opener in the San Joaquin Valley and the Missions lost a second straight in Frisco, Texas. The Storm dropped their fourth straight, losing at home to High Desert while the TinCaps were blown out at Parkview Field.

El Paso rode the contributions of their top two prospects to a win Friday night while the Missions’ offense carried them to a win at home. The Storm were nearly a part of history in Bakersfield and Fort Wayne lost a heartbreaker in Fighting Irish territory.

All four full-season teams were in action on the first Monday of the minor league season. The TinCaps opened a road trip with a win while San Antonio was blown out at home. The Storm won their series opener in picturesque Adelanto, California and the Chihuahuas were bested in the Pacific Northwest.

It was no secret that the San Diego Padres’ farm system lacked depth after the 2015 season, especially in the upper levels of the minors. The El Paso Chihuahuas made the playoffs with a roster full of journeymen, but San Antonio and Lake Elsinore struggled mightily.

Season Review: AAA Louisville

Louisville Bat fans had more to cheer about in 2013 than they did when their team struggled to the worst record in the International League the previous season following heavy turnover on their roster. Improved pitching was the big reason and 2014 should be interesting as some AA pitchers join the rotation.

Reynolds Has Successful Return at Louisville

Greg Reynolds has cleared waivers since his start with the Reds and resumed his fine season with Louisville last night, picking up a win from tossing seven scoreless innings. The Reds AAA rotation has turned over with a couple of promotions from AA and Reynolds remains the first one to call if they need any more rotation help in addition to Tony Cingrani.

Trying to Return to the Show

Former Rockies second overall draft selection Greg Reynolds is putting together a fine season at Louisville and will be rewarded Tuesday with a start for the Reds in their doubleheader at San Francisco. He and Zach Duke are a couple of veterans that have impressed with the Bats this season.

This week marks the All Star Break not only for MLB but for the International and Southern Leagues. In addition to the three Reds participating in the big game in New York five Cincinnati prospects will represent their teams in minor league all-star games.
