Good offseason vibes a welcome change

What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago the Raiders had just begun what would turn out to be their most chaotic and colorful offseason in decades. The owner was feuding with the head coach. The front office was handing out money by the millions in outlandish deals in moves that would later prove to be, in some cases, woefully bad. Fast forward to 2009.

Raiders sign Reggie Toungue

With their injury-depleted secondary running short on available bodies, the Raiders signed veteran safety Reggie Tongue on Wednesday. While Tongue probably won't play this week against his former team, Kansas City, his signing gives Oakland some much-needed experience and depth in the defensive backfield.

There's No Place Like Home

At 2-4 the Raiders are perilously close to falling out of the playoff chase before November. If Oakland can't find a way to win on the road, beginning this Sunday in Tennessee, the postseason won't be a concern.

Derrick Gibson has surgery, Woodson in a boot

Derrick Gibson underwent surgery and had pins placed in his right wrist Monday morning. Charles Woodson and his broken right leg are in a walking boot for the next 6-8 weeks. How will the Raiders compensate for losing two members of their starting defensive secondary? Not even coach Norv Turner is sure.
