Teammates reacted with shock, sadness and disbelief at the news of the death of former Raiders defensive tackle Darrell Russell. Russell was killed early Thursday morning when the car he was riding in struck a parked bus in Southern California.

The mathematics just don't add up for the Raiders this year. To get into the playoffs, Oakland almost certainly has to run the table in its final seven games, a monumental task for a team that has won just three games this season and only eight overall since 2003.

Jake Grove left the Raiders lineup on Oct. 3 listed as the team's starting center. But since returning from surgery to fix the damaged cartilage in his right knee, the second-year veteran has been unable to get back into Oakland's lineup.

The happiest NFL under tackle on a 1-3 team is probably the Raiders' Warren Sapp. No, he's not happy about 1-3. And he's not boasting the Raiders' defense has gone from soggy crackers to focaccia. The self-styled "QB Killa" is happy because he's back ... and it's evident for all to see.

The first major in-season injury came at the right time for the Raiders. They will lose center Jake Grove for between three and four weeks with torn cartilage in his right knee. The good news is that one of those games will be eaten up by this week's bye.
