<b>PITTSBURGH -</b> In a teleconference call earlier this week, Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was asked to recount -- once again -- the story of his high school's 6-0 win over Carlynton and Steelers coach Bill Cowher way back in the Dark Ages.<br><br> "I don't want to recall that," said Lewis.<br><br> He instead referenced today's halftime "game" between the Fort Cherry Little Rangers and the Crafton Little Cougars. It was a topic that interested Cowher a great deal.<br><br>

On The Sidelines

Talks between linebacker Kendrell Bell's agent, Todd France, and the Steelers over a contract extension have ended. Bell will go through his fourth and final season and then become an unrestricted free agent, unless the Steelers re-sign him after the season. The team follows a philosophy not to negotiate new deals once the regular season starts.

Trimming the roster

Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert was quick to point out in the aftermath of this year's draft that practice squads were increasing from five to eight players this season. And, Colbert said, the Steelers were taking players in later rounds with that in mind.

Game preview: Staley grouchy about return

<b>LATROBE - </b> Duce Staley, new running back for the Steelers, put the cell phone down long enough to talk to reporters about Thursday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.<br><br> He should've kept talking on the phone.<br><br> "It's just another preseason game," said the 2002 Eagles Offensive MVP. "I'm looking to go in and get a little more conditioning, learn the offense more and get more playing time because after this game, we've only got one more and then it's live bullets."
