Contract Watch: The four who've yet to score

No general manager does a better job taking care of his own than A.J. Smith. After giving Brandon Manumaleuna a new three-year contract, the Chargers now have 28 players signed through at least the 2009 season. However, a few players have slipped through the cracks. Here is a look at four Chargers scheduled for unrestricted free agency at season's end.

Chargers look at replacements for Kiel

For the third consecutive offseason, the Chargers may be in the market for a safety. Terrence Kiel, the incumbent starter at strong safety, finished 2006 without an interception or a sack, forcing Chargers scouts to keep their eyes open for a playmaker at the position during Senior Bowl week. There is also a dark-horse candidate emerging.

The Chargers 32-25 victory over the Browns was an impressive showcase of the team's depth. While most of the post-game chatter centered on the play of the reserve linebackers, reserve safety Bhawoh Jue quietly had a nice game as well. In just his second game back from knee surgery, he appears to be returning to form and primed to push for more playing time.
