Cutting the roster

While Steelers head coach Bill Cowher has until Tuesday to trim the team's roster to 65 players and until Aug. 31 to get down to the regular season limit of 53, he need not take even that long. <br><br>In reality, there are only a few roster spots open on this team and, for the most part, those spots have already been claimed. <br><br>Here's one man's look at the Steelers' 53-man roster:

Notebook: Gildon, Again

<b>LATROBE -- </b> It's the seemingly never-ending question: Is Jason Gildon ready to take his place in Steelers history? <br><br> Reporters first began asking about Gildon's rise up the Steelers sacks chart in the spring of 2002. But Gildon, the Steelers' strong-side outside linebacker, was stopped at 71 career sacks last year, only 2.5 behind the franchise's unofficial leader, L.C. Greenwood, who played before sacks became an official NFL statistic in 1982.

Notebook: Amos miles ahead of last year

<b> LATROBE – </b> One man's loss is often another man's gain. Just look at Jerome Bettis and Amos Zereoue. <br><br> Bettis, the Steelers' big tailback, dropped down to 252 pounds for camp, even dipping to 249 this week. Apparently, the weight was transferred to Zereoue, who checked in at a career-high 213 pounds.
