What have the 49ers been waiting for? They should have brought back versatile safety Ronnie Heard to the roster a month ago. And DT D'Marco Farr has been dangling in no-man's land since it became apparent at minicamp two weeks ago the former Pro Bowler's knees weren't about to hold up for any sort of comeback attempt. On Thursday, the wait ended for both players as the 49ers re-signed Heard and released Farr, two moves that provide roster clarity as the team prepares for its second May minicamp.

Now that the team is beneath the league-mandated salary cap, here's a look at each of the team's 18 unrestricted, restricted and exclusive rights free agents, where each currently stands with the team, and the interest each can expect from the Niners in the upcoming months.

The Niners tendered offers Wednesday to half of their 10 restricted and exclusive rights free agents, including a one-year tender of $1.318 million to wide receiver Tai Streets. But the team opted not to tender veteran safety Ronnie Heard, who now becomes an unrestricted free agent who can sign with any NFL team without the Niners receiving compensation.
