The Seattle Seahawks will find another player or two to fill the fullback vacancy created by the loss of veteran Mack Strong, who retired Monday after a neck injury. Finding somebody to fill Strong's role as team leader is another issue, however.

Mack Strong knew the "stinger" he felt in the game against Pittsburgh was different than the others that had bothered him at times in his career. Medical examinations revealed it to be a herniated disc pinching on his spinal cord. It caused the veteran fullback to retire.

With Cincinnati visiting on Sunday, Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren was questioned about his take on the end-zone antics of Bengals receiver Chad Johnson. "I like Chad, actually," Holmgren said of the flamboyant Johnson. "We usually chat (before) the times we've played. He's very cordial; he's a good guy ... I'm not a big fan of the other stuff, though; I don't like our guys doing it."

To get a sense of how highly regarded fullback Mack Strong is by his Seahawk teammates, he's been voted to receive the Steve Largent Award five times. The honor goes to the player who shows the greatest spirit, dedication and integrity. No other Seahawk has won it more than once.

Matt Hasselbeck is a three-time Pro Bowl passer. Now he has to start playing like one. The Seahawks' playoff existence could depend on him becoming more consistent and careful with the football. "He has way more interceptions than he should, being as bright as he is and understanding our system now the way he understands it," coach Mike Holmgren said.
