Potentially one of the best receiver classes in recent memory, a large number of wide outs were invited to participate at the combine. And though some chose to sit on the sidelines many performed for the scouts in attendance with a variety of results. Kevin Beard is a senior wide receiver from Plantation and is third on the team in receiving yards and receptions. Last year against Florida State, Beard scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to set the stage for the comeback victory. Beard was a key component in Miami's comeback victory over Florida this year and prides himself on playing well in big-time games.

Even before tearing up his right knee last November, Kevin Beard remembers the days when fans, and even some teammates, mocked his inability to get past defensive backs and tendency to drop some balls along the way. And Beard obviously hasn't forgotten.

There have been a lot of injuries this fall, luckily none too serious. Most of the players have returned to practice with the exception to the guys that have had surgeries. Coach Larry Coker on today's practice, "This was a good day. We handled the ball well. We reacted well and we got a lot of things done today."

The University of Miami Hurricanes need Kevin Beard in the worse way - especially these days. Roscoe Parrish, expected to bring quality depth to the flanker position, had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Monday and could be sidelined until Sept. 6 when the Hurricanes host Florida.

Today was the last practice that will be open to the public. A very good crowd showed up to see the Hurricanes go through a few drills and go through a full scrimmage. The players enjoyed the game situation and it will give the coaches better film to look at.
