Golden nuggets from a memorable win

NASHVILLE-- Vanderbilt's 31-13 Southeastern Conference win over Mississippi State set off a raucous celebration that went on well into Saturday night on the old West End campus. Outside the stadium, it seemed everyone wanted to slap the players on the shoulder pads and congratulate them on a hard-earned win. "We pimp-slapped 'em and made 'em like it!" exclaimed a nearly delirious Vandy Lance.

He's back: Unlikely saga of "Ponch" continues...

When Abtin Iranmanesh collected his sheepskin last May, the punter nicknamed "Ponch" was fairly positive his football career was over. Now, thanks to some last-minute scholarship shuffling by head coach Bobby Johnson, Iranmanesh is back as a graduate school student and a fifth-year senior on the football team. For sure, his already-unlikely story has taken yet another bizarre twist.

NASHVILLE-- An inspired Vanderbilt defense turned in a masterful first-half performance and managed to hold a shell-shocked Georgia offense scoreless for a half. But Coach Mark Richt's fourth-ranked Bulldogs roared back from an improbable 2-0 halftime deficit Saturday to down the Commodores, 27-8, before 27,823 at Vanderbilt Stadium.
