The final installation of our San Francisco Giants season review contains material that may not be suitable for sensitive Giants fans. Behold: the bullpen.
October 28, 2007
A move that was long-rumored (and awaited by many fans) has finally come to pass. After two straight ugly outings, the Giants finally tired enough of the closer's act to rid themselves of him at whatever cost.
The Cactus League is over, and the team is back in San Francisco. The fifth starter battle is over, but a lot of unanswered questions remain. Just who will make up this bullpen, and might a surprise or two be in store for the contenders?
As important as first base is, the battle is slowing down significantly. But a couple of important contenders are back in the swing (and pitch) of things.
The Giants sent their embattled closer to the Disabled List with arthritis in the knees, and in his place, a successful but wild minor league closer will find his way to the majors for the first time.

The Giants had to finalize their roster, and they did on Saturday. The result was the closer going on the DL, a catcher being added to the roster, one of the hottest pitchers of the spring going down to Fresno, and a surprising move that left a Giant prospect available to be picked up by any other team.
