Pirates and Burnitz Part Ways

As expected the Pittsburgh Pirates have decided not to exercise their option to bring veteran outfielder Jeromy Burnitz back for a second year at $6 million. Instead, the Pirates will pay a $700,000 buyout to Burnitz, thus making the 37-year-old a free agent.

Burnitz Trying to Find Stroke

Pittsburgh outfielder Jeromy Burnitz is mired in a 7-for-58 slump offensively. He was 1 for 4 at the plate on Tuesday night against Arizona, doubling off the left-field wall in the sixth to end his 0-for-19 slide.

The Cubs off season can be best described as "out with the old and in with the new." And in this case the "old" being Moises Alou, Matt Clement and Kent Mercker. Oh yeah, and a little guy named Sammy Sosa. But that's a whole other issue. And the "new"? Well that's where the questions still remain. With Sosa shipped off to Baltimore, the Cubs outfield could be any number of combinations.
