The Trojan influence on the draft is another example of the overall rise in the program since Pete Carroll took over as head coach. It's not by accident that the USC players are showing up better prepared emotionally and physically for the realities of making the leap from college football to the professional level.

The Trojans picked up right where things left off at the Orange Bowl by coming out prepared for spring ball drills and going through 15 practices at a high intensity level. Pete Carroll praised the competitive nature of the team and the focus they showed each day. The defense proved that it has a chance to be one of the best in the country and the offense showed signs of being as far along as we've seen from them in recent spring drills. The Trojans held their annual Pro-Timing Day on campus today with 60 NFL personnel from Marty Schottenheimer to Ernie Zampese to Hue Jackson in attendance to test the USC seniors eligible for next month's draft. It seemed as though most teams had multiple scouts in attendance and they spent the day working the stopwatches and jotting down numbers at every turn. Los Alamitos (Calif.) will be loaded next year and another Div I player to watch is mammoth lineman Cameron Filkins. Filkins played exclusively at defensive tackle this past season but could project more as an offensive lineman in college.
