Aaron Heilman, who has been sidelined with shoulder inflammation since April 14, is close to returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks. With the team's bullpen in far better shape than it was a year ago, there is no obvious candidate to demote to Triple-A upon his return, however.

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have placed right-handed pitcher Aaron Heilman on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis (retroactive to April 14) and recalled right-handed pitcher Josh Collmenter from Triple-A Reno.

First baseman Adam LaRoche and reliever Aaron Heilman were offered salary arbitration at the Tuesday deadline, but it was more a procedural move than a signal the two will return to the Diamondbacks in 2011. Both are expected to test the free agent market.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired left-handed pitcher Zach Duke from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later. Duke is a sinkerballer who figures to be a good fit for Chase Field, provided the Diamondbacks' defense improves over recent years.
