2005 Linebacker preview

The linebacker position for the Trojans this year can accurately be described as an embarrassment of riches as there is an impressive array of talent available for the coaches to choose from. There is a good mix of veteran leadership with guys like Dallas Sartz and Collin Ashton to go along with promising youngsters such as Keith Rivers and the Fab Four Freshmen.

Fall Camp Day 6

After two intense practice days over the weekend the Trojans held practices today in shorts and shoulder pads. The morning session featured a lot of teaching of the two-minute drive situations for the offense and nickel packages for the defense. The afternoon featured more big plays from freshman receiver Dwayne Jarrett.

This unit has a chance to be one of the best in college football this year with a talented group at linebacker, a pair of honors candidates up front and an experienced group in the secondary. Pete Carroll returns to call the shots on defense and in his three years at USC it's been made clear that his defensive mind is at another level as it relates to the college game.

2004 USC preview: Special teams

The good news for the Trojans is that Tom Malone returns as the punter. The bad news for the Trojans, as far as Malone is concerned, is that the USC offense is expected to be as powerful as ever and we may not get to see Tom in action too often.
