Monday practice report

<b>LATROBE --</b> The Steelers went into team scrimmage three different times Monday because, as Coach Bill Cowher explained, the team committed so many minor penalties Saturday night. <br><br>So Cowher had them working as a team and the focus was evident, the tempo crisp. <br><br>Here are the notes:

Notebook: Ross explains decision

<b>LATROBE -</b> Adrian Ross had only three sacks in six years with the Cincinnati Bengals, but he had some issues with how he was being used.<br><br> The latest in a string of Colorado State linebackers to play pro ball in Pittsburgh said that was the reason he chose the Steelers on Saturday over the Bengals in what amounted to an auction for his services.

A look at the secondary

It's not a complete makeover, but the Steelers certainly did a Bob Villa-like fixer-upper job on their secondary heading into the 2004 season. <br><br> With training camp set to open July 30, the Steelers currently have three new starters at the four secondary positions from a year ago. And the only reason Chad Scott, the only returning starter, still has a spot with the team is because it would cost the Steelers too much money to release him.
