It's amazing how the perception of a team can change 180 degrees in a week. After their victory over the Giants in Week 7, the Cardinals appeared to be on course for another NFC West title. It was their third consecutive victory, their biggest regular-season road win in years, and they were 4-2 with a so-called "easy" schedule ahead.

Whisenhunt Plans to Call More Run Plays

The Cardinals couldn't run in the second half against the Colts on Sept. 27 because they were down 21-3. They declined to run against the Texans last week, despite being ahead 21-0 at halftime. The Cardinals had just four running plays in the second half and gained only one first down overall.

Cardinals Defense Not Much Better Under Davis

Coach Ken Whisenhunt fired defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast at the end of last season because of his unit's inconsistencies and inability to rise up in key situations. But the Cardinals' defense hasn't fared any better under Bill Davis, Pendergast's replacement. The Cardinals at times look like a cohesive unit with enough team speed to give opponents trouble.

The Cardinals emerged from the preseason with an 0-4 record and were successful only in "embarrassing ourselves," said quarterback Kurt Warner. Coach Ken Whisenhunt wasn't nearly that negative. In fact, he wasn't negative at all.
