FOXBORO, Mass. -- The New England Patriots announced the release of ten players today as they worked to reduce the roster to meet a league limit of 53 by Saturday. New England also traded rookie running back Patrick Cobbs to the Pittsburgh Steelers for an undisclosed draft pick Cobbs, a preseason playmaker was unlikely to clear waivers should the team have made the attempt.

Tuesday is a scheduled roster cutdown day for every team in the NFL. Some teams have already begun the process of letting players go as they work to meet the maximum of 75 allowable.
