The Fourth of July has turned into a tragic day for Terrence Kiel. Shortly after he was drafted, he was shot three times on July 4, 2003, when he was the victim of an apparent carjacking. Exactly five years later, Kiel, 27, was killed in one-vehicle accident. The Chargers should take care to honor the fallen player in the upcoming season.

Chargers look at replacements for Kiel

For the third consecutive offseason, the Chargers may be in the market for a safety. Terrence Kiel, the incumbent starter at strong safety, finished 2006 without an interception or a sack, forcing Chargers scouts to keep their eyes open for a playmaker at the position during Senior Bowl week. There is also a dark-horse candidate emerging.
