It was the perfect symbolic ending. In perhaps the most appropriate moment in the New Orleans Pelicans incredibly disappointing injury-filled 2015-16 season, the team only dressed 7 players in last night's finale. NBA rules state that teams must dress at least eight. In New Orleans, we love to break the rules, but this season was ridiculous. After the previous four Pelicans' injury-riddled years, who could have possibly thought those seasons would have nothing on this year's bad luck?

When the New Orleans Pelicans season mercifully ends this Wednesday, it's players will have missed at least 344 games to injuries, joining only four other teams in NBA history to even reach 300. It's been that kind of year for the Pels, but they've managed to show plenty of heart despite having mostly D-League talent. This weekend began with plenty of hoopla and a huge bang, as the Crescent City welcomed Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant for the last time. Here's the weekend wrap-up.

Just one night after an embarrassing blowout loss to one of the worst teams in NBA history, the scrappy New Orleans Pelicans battled down to the wire, against one of the league's best. Despite arguably having the nine best players on the team out for the rest of the season, the road-weary Pelicans came back from a 16-point deficit against the Boston Celtics, a team that is tied for the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference. For the rest of a very intriguing story....

The Philadelphia 76ers, and their so-called "rebuilding" phase, have become the NBA's abomination for the past three years. But even as horrific as the previous two seasons have been in the City of Brotherly Love, this 2015-16 campaign has been historically bad. So bad in fact, that if the Sixers lose their last 5 games, they will officially tie the worst 82-game record in the seventy years the NBA has been playing. And you'll never guess whose infamous record might be in danger...

NBA journeymen players Toney Douglas, Luke Babbitt, and a trio of players who were in the NBA's Developmental League just two weeks ago, somehow managed a victory tonight against a Denver Nuggets team with faint hopes of making the playoffs. Don't ask me how they did it, but true New Orleanian hoop fans should be proud of the "don't quit" never-say-die attitude of this depleted Pelicans squad. And oh yeah, thank Tim Frazier, Jordan Hamilton & James Ennis as well....

In a season we'd all like to forget, the against-all-odds Pelicans somehow continue to play with guts, grit and determination despite having seven key players missing from the lineup. On a night when Knicks star Carmelo Anthony received a late game hug from a young child who ran onto the court, the Pelicans gutted out an unlikely victory. Here's how head coach Alvin Gentry and his walking wounded somehow managed to pull it off.

They say you're supposed to be kind to your guests, but the New Orleans Pelicans were in no mood to be hospitable, after learning superstar forward Anthony Davis will be out for the season with two significant injuries which will require surgery. Couple that with the fact that second leading scorer Ryan Anderson also sat today because of a groin issue, then it would seem to be an easy victory for former Hornet Chris Paul's homecoming to New Orleans. But the gritty Pels thought otherwise...
