Holiday Inn wins PIT Opener in overtime

Seven of eight players reached double figures to lead Holiday Inn to a 109-102 overtime win over Sales Systems in the opening game of the 2005 Portsmouth Invitational.

Only eight months until basketball season

Gill Coliseum saw a game for the ages on Wednesday night, as postseason basketball returned to the city of Corvallis for the first time since a loudmouthed kid named Gary Payton donned the orange and black. There was a rollicking, deafening (announced) crowd of 6,394 Beaver faithful in the stands. There was a titanic comeback from 18 points down in the second half, to send the game into overtime.

Lucas earns first-team honors

Former walk-on David Lucas was named to the All-Pacific-10 Conference first team for the second consecutive time Thursday. Sasa Cuci earned honorable mention All-Freshman team honors while the Fred Hessler Award winner Nick DeWitz grabbed honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors.

DeWitz, Oregon State dominate Cal

Saturday night was, among other things, Senior Night for Oregon State Men's Basketball - the last chance for a class of Beavers to make one, final impression on the program that they spent years forging out of sweat, blood and free throws. More importantly, this was a senior class that would have the everlasting distinction of breaking the last major streak of futility remaining in Oregon State athletics.
