BIRMINGHAM-- Five Commodores – junior wide receiver Earl Bennett, senior offensive tackles Chris Williams and Brian Stamper, senior linebacker Jonathan Goff and junior quarterback Chris Nickson – were named to the Southeastern Conference football coaches' Preseason All-SEC Team Thursday.

NCAA makes decision on Stamper

A NCAA committee met today to review Vanderbilt's appeal for a medical red shirt for senior offensive lineman Brian Stamper. Stamper saw action in five games during the 2006 season but played only briefly during the TSU and Temple games before he was sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Stamper Awaits Final Decision

The Southeastern Conference has officially denied the waiver application submitted by Vanderbilt requesting an additional year of eligibility for team captain Brian Stamper. The decision by the SEC has been expected all along, since no variance from the guidelines set by the NCAA is allowed.

Vanderbilt beat Tennessee 28-24 at Neyland Stadium last November, ending a 22-game losing streak in the series and a 29-year drought in Knoxville. So, you'd figure the Commodores' coach and players might be gloating a bit heading into 2006.
