Gopher WR Logan Payne Signs with Seattle

Gopher receiver Logan Payne signed as a free agent with the Seattle Seahawks. Payne was quarterback Bryan Cupito's favorite target in 2006 as he led the team in receptions (59), receiving yards (804) and receiving touchdowns (9). Former Gopher tailback Gary Russell will reunite with teammate Matt Spaeth as Russell inked a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ex-Gopher Gary Russell Prepares for NFL Draft

Former Minnesota running back Gary Russell is preparing for the NFL Draft after being ruled ineligible last season. Russell rushed 164 times for 1,045 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and 18 rushing touchdowns in 2005. He struggled in the 40-yard dash at the recent NFL combine in Indianapolis and will have to work hard to get back on the draft radar. Russell talked to the media before his workout.

RB Gary Russell Will Not Return to Gophers

As had been speculated for months, Minnesota running back Gary Russell won't return to the team this year. That leaves the Gophers without both of their 1,000-yard rushers from last season, since Laurence Maroney left a year early for the NFL. Russell, who would've been a junior, is not enrolled in classes for the fall semester, school spokesman Shane Sandersfeld confirmed.
