BYU coaches did not give their players a vacation during the last two weeks, but they did give them a lower impact regimen relative to the regular season routine. As a result, the Cougars are rejuvenated and walking with a little more spring in their step as they make their final preparations for the Las Vegas Bowl.

Seniors John Beck, Curtis Brown, Cameron Jensen, Aaron Wagner, Dan Coats, Jonny Harline, Jake Kuresa, Zac Collie and Eddie Keele will long be remembered by fans for their role in bringing BYU back to former glory. They will also be remembered by their teammates for setting the example of how to lead a successful program.

BYU put up good offensive numbers and stifled the Falcon triple option attack on its way to a 33-14 drubbing of Air Force. The Cougars now sit securely on top of the Mountain West Conference and will continue to control their own destiny in regards to a conference championship. BYU is also bowl eligible with four games left in the season.

No Cougar fan can forget BYU's game against TCU last season. There was the blowout that wasn't, the drive to force overtime, the quick strike in OT, the botched extra point, and, of course, the fumble at the goal line. This Thursday, the Cougar team and fans alike can exorcise those demons with a win over 15th ranked Horned Frogs.

The Cougars came to the practice field today with a bit of an attitude. They were shocked by the loss of a teammate to injury and furious about two performances that fell just short of victory. They are resolved to eliminate their execution problems so that they do not squander any more opportunities to win.

Fall camp is over. Preparation for the first game against Arizona began in earnest as the team shifted into its regular season practice routine. Scout teams have been formed and game plans developed as the Cougars prepare to travel down to Tucson next Saturday for the season opener.

BYU fans got another chance to come out and watch the football team practice this morning. Players stayed after to sign autographs for kids and even a couple adults. During practice, the offense added a few new wrinkles, but the defense handled every new look the offense gave them and sent the message that they are ready for whatever opponents will throw at them.

BYU Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall made it very clear that he switched to the 3-4 defense because it would put his best players on the field, namely, the linebackers. There are many skilled linebackers on the team and Cougar coaches are giving each of them a chance to prove themselves. Today Gary Lovely and Aaron Wagner got a turn to show their stuff with the ones.
