JIM STERK says he likes the direction Paul Wulff has taken with team discipline. Roster changes and suspensions since Wulff arrived have gotten loads of play in the media. While there have been exceptions, the vast majority of player scrapes with the law however during Wulff's stay have been relatively minor, such as driving with a suspended license. And the team has made progress academically.

FIFTEEN OF THE 23-member 2009 Cougar signing class are already on campus, enrolled and participating in the Cougs' voluntary summer workouts. Four others in the class will either delay enrollment and enroll at WSU in January or go the junior college route this fall. Meanwhile, two Cougar veterans are no longer with the team.

PULLMAN – In a season where the punter has been the offense's best weapon, a pair of Cougs on Wednesday unexpectedly awoke the echoes of Gesser and Riley, Leaf and Jackson. Receiver Michael Willis and quarterback J.T. Levenseller teamed up for two head-turning plays during a short scrimmage near the day's end. Meanwhile, O-coordinator Todd Sturdy talked about where he sees the Cougs headed.

PULLMAN -- The Cougars displayed fresh legs and renewed enthusiasm Tuesday morning, when light rain helped bring cooler temperatures after a day off. Probable starters like running back Dwight Tardy, wide receiver Michael Willis and cornerback Alfonso Jackson saw action after shaking off injuries. Paul Wulff also brought in a Cougar great to speak to the players following the session.

PULLMAN -- It was so quiet at Washington State's practice Thursday morning, you could hear a fumble drop. WSU's hard-driving coaching staff, concerned about mounting injuries, backed off the troops for the first time in fall camp. The result was a shorter, less intense and quieter workout than usual. Still, Devin Frischknecht, Tyrone Justin and Kevin Frank all made a little noise of their own.
