Leiter files, negotiations ongoing

Al Leiter filed for provisional free agency on Friday, a step that is considered a security measure in case contract negotiations with the Mets break down. <P> But the odds are that the 39-year-old lefthander will be back with the Mets for the 2005 season, which figures to be his final year as a player. Leiter has already said that he hopes to be back with the club, and the interest appears mutual.
