The biggest star of the class however was a player that was nowhere near the radar back in 2004 but ended up being an all-American and a first round draft choice.

Texas held its annual Pro Day, when scouts from every NFL team come to Austin to evaluate Longhorns who are trying to make it to the pros. Players were poked, prodded and put through every manner of drill, but at the end of the day several Texas athletes made a big impact on their chances of having their names called in the NFL Draft.

The 2006 season was the best of times and worst of times for the Texas defense, posting the second-best run defense (61.2 ypg) and worst pass defense (236.2 ypg) in program history. But Co-Defensive Coordinator Duane Akina is convinced the Longhorn secondary will be significantly improved in 2007.

Former SLB Drew Kelson's stint at SS during the first half of Texas spring football, Longhorn coaches say, is just an audition. Don't count on it. The smart money is on Kelson remaining in a defensive backfield that replaces three starters from last year's 10-3 team.
