The Phillies had a need for a shortstop at the AA level and checked out the waiver wire. That's where they found young Angel Chavez, who played in ten games at the major league level with the Giants in 2005. Now, he's anchoring the shortstop spot for the R-Phils.

Benitez DL'ed; Chavez DFA'd; Roster Finalized

The Giants had to finalize their roster, and they did on Saturday. The result was the closer going on the DL, a catcher being added to the roster, one of the hottest pitchers of the spring going down to Fresno, and a surprising move that left a Giant prospect available to be picked up by any other team.
