Mike Koplove believes so much in his ability to pitch in the majors that he insisted on an out-clause in his minor league deal with the Phillies. Because of that clause, Koplove is now a free agent, but might have been able to help in Philly.

2006 could have been so much more for the San Francisco Giants than it was, as a team and for individual players. Jack Taschner's second year with the club was a departure from 2005 where he was a fixture in the bullpen. After a rough 2006 season bouncing around between Fresno and San Francisco, it's a tale of two seasons for Taschner with the Giants: one good, one bad, with questions for 2007.

Playing time is starting to dry up as starters return and play longer outings, so those guys battling for spots need to step it up! And this past Sunday was a round of 'reassignments' to minor league camp! How did the position battle landscape change due to that?

Jack Taschner's been ignored by prospect prognosticators for a while. Sure, he's older than the usual prospect. Sure, he's *only* a reliever. But anyone who thinks those are good reasons to discount him should look at his Giant-best ERA and how he and a couple of other rookie relievers turned the Giants bullpen around.
