For years, the Phillies scouting in Asia was non-existent. In 2001, the Phillies entered the market and came away with two highly sought after pitchers in Il Kim and Seung Lee. Kim has fallen by the wayside, but Kim is still considered somewhat of a prospect. Lee has had ups and downs throughout his minor league career and had been figured on to be in the major league rotation by now, but that obviously, hasn't happened.

Perhaps no Phillies prospect faces a more important season in 200 than Seung Lee. The Phillies invested a lot of money into signing Lee as a Korean free agent and they have been patient with his development. So far though, Lee hasn't quite lived up to the standards that the Phillies had hoped for and his 2003 season was pretty disappointing.
