Waiting Game

Carroll has no problem throwing 18-year old studs into the mix throughout the season and letting young stars shine brightly. He does have a problem, however, doing so in the season's opening game. Throughout the coach's four year tenure, he's showed a repeated reluctance to give true freshmen significant playing time in the opener, and he must be praised for that patience.

2004 USC preview: Defense

This unit has a chance to be one of the best in college football this year with a talented group at linebacker, a pair of honors candidates up front and an experienced group in the secondary. Pete Carroll returns to call the shots on defense and in his three years at USC it's been made clear that his defensive mind is at another level as it relates to the college game.
