Diamondbacks Say "Ta-Ta" to Tucson

As expected, the Arizona Diamondbacks have formally severed their remaining ties with Southern Arizona. After moving their Triple-A Tucson affiliate to Reno this spring, they have now filed the paperwork that allows them to vacate their Tucson spring training complex after 2010.

Mark Reynolds whiffed once every 2.64 at-bats last season on route to establishing a new single-season strikeout record of 204. He has cut that figure down to once every 3.08 at-bats in the early going this year, which is actually a better rate than teammate Justin Upton (3.00). Diamondbacks Offense Among MLB's Worst

The Arizona Diamondbacks haven't had what you would call a high-powered offense in years. In 2006, they finished 7th in the NL in runs scored, easily the franchise's best showing since they won 98 games in 2002. The D-backs finished tied for last place in the NL West in that 2006 season due to pitching issues, and they could finish last again this year if their offense doesn't shape up.

Whitesell Has Red-Letter Day in Loss

The Salt Lake Bees defeated the Reno Aces 9-6 Saturday night, but none of the blame can be placed on slugger Josh Whitesell. He drove in all six of Reno's runs with two homers, including one with the bases juiced. Rehabbing reliever Tom Gordon gets the start on Sunday.
