Jesse Garcia drove in seven runs for Portland. Corey Smith had another two homer night and Mobile pumped five over the fence. Arturo Lopez is struggling mightily and he knows it. Cesar Ramos secured the win in game one with a complete game but the nightcap went extra innings and an error was the undoing. Fabian Jimenez walked five but picked up the win. Ernesto Frieri continues the hot hand and two newcomers have solid showings.

In another late spring training trade, Braves' General Manager John Schuerholz traded second baseman Nick Green to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Thursday morning for reliever Jorge Sosa. The San Diego Padres made their first plunge into free agency but it wasn't the splash many had hoped. They signed infielders Damian Jackson and Jesse Garcia and right-handed pitchers Marty McLeary and Mike Brunet. Each was signed to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
